I've been saving this story as a "treat" to myself after I finished a big work project - WOW! I am not a fan of giving any "spoilers" but it is well worth the read. Would love it if this continued as a series; I love stories with female protagonists, especially when the characters are complex. This gives a brand new meaning to "I Love Lucy". Really like some of the writing stylistic choices & rule-breaking.Full disclosure: I know the author professionally. She edited my book and after reading this, I'm even more proud to have her name in my credits list.

An engaging, suspenseful read from the start! This has all the complexities for a fantastic thriller. I wish there was more of it to read and agree with previous poster- this should not be in the Young Adult category. I am 36 and loved it.
A powerful psychological tale with strong visuals and deep insight. Loved it.....
This dark little short story moves along quickly with only essential dialogue fueling the pace. The resolution steers clear of predictability and made this reader start over from the beginning to reconsider the protagonist's motivation. Well worth the read.
The writer doesn't just take you along the journey, you are already on it, with this adolescent girl, scrambling for answers in her past and surviving the present. Does it work? Do the secrets materializing in memories need to be confronted? Join the mind of this quick-thinking, resourceful, worried teen. I want to know more! Hoping for future installments!
A chilling short story told from a teenager's perspective, but this isn't really a YA offering. What I loved best was the author's insight into how shock makes a young, inexperienced person thoughtlessly react (and flee). And Lucy is so fierce. Wonderful.
As an older-than-dirt reader I'm not the intended demographic for this story, but even some of my generation will be curious to see what adventures this author has in store. RISE introduces the reader to Lucy, a precocious 14 year old struggling with veiled, unsettling memories. There is a substance to the girl, only lightly suggested in these establishing pages. I think RISE might well be a fun read clothed in the sinister. Thumbs up!
ts amazing the author was able to create such a compelling story in so few words. We are quickly drawn in to the story, starting with Lucy's escape but we don't yet know from what or whom. The story unfolds quickly which adds to the intensity. The story is a quick read which makes you want to learn more about its main character. The end of the short story leaves you wanting to know more, even though the story itself is a great read in and of itself.
Would definitely recommend to friends for a quick and intense read. Only hope the author writes more about this story. I want to know more.
